Associate Scientist: Genetic Analysis
This position supports the genetic analysis platform for variety verification and virus identification and will also support commercialization of new protocols in support of Discovery R&D.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct activities that require knowledge and application of molecular biology techniques
- Follow protocols to complete variety verification and viral screening projects
- Assist with the development of assays and protocols for new projects
- Ensure that reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner
- Organize work plans and monitor progress of others within their area of focus
- Order lab supplies, manage inventory and equipment as needed
- Assist in the hiring and training of new staff as needed
- Take initiative in keeping current with literature in areas of assignment
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in molecular biology or related field or Bachelors degree and at least 3 years of progressive responsibilities in plant molecular biology
- Experience with nucleic acid isolation, amplification, and analysis protocols
- Ability to solve problems through deductive reasoning and the application of scientific principles
- Capable of design and interpretation of scientific experiments
- Ability to manage processes
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and compile reports
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team is important
- Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Willingness and capacity to learn and acquire relevant new skill sets
- Demonstrate flexibility as protocols, processes, and facilities change
